Torton continues to be a family run business, since it was established in 1938 under its "Pilot Caravans" name. It re-branded as Torton Bodies Ltd in 1961.
We employ a diverse range of skills throughout the factory where the units are produced, and in the office for all the project & business administration and management departments. We also recruit exhibition drivers and operators to run client trailers and exhibition units as they tour the UK.

Cabinet Maker/ Joiner | £ Dependant on experience
Job purpose
To build and fit a variety of furniture specialist use vehicles from small towable trailers and 3.5 tonne motorised vehicles to heavy goods motorised vehicles and articulated semi-trailers. The company manufactures a wide range of products which includes exhibition units and medical clinics.
The successful applicant will be instructed in the Company's methods of manufacture and installation for laminated furniture/timber fabrications, to include:
- Reading working drawings from which products are to be constructed.
- Understanding and being able to write cutting lists.
- The set up and operation of a variety of woodworking machines and power tools.
A trainee applicant would work under the supervision of an experienced craftsman during the duration of training which would additionally cover:
- The sequence of fabrication operations to be performed during build and fitting.
- How to mark out components prior to assembly.
- The use and sharpening of hand tools.
- Fabrication techniques including working with laminates, gluing and screwing.
- The installation of hardware, such as hinges, handles, locks, catches, and drawer runners.
- How to fit and secure cabinetry.

Vehicle Bodybuilder | £ Dependant on experience
Requirements:
Applicants to be time served woodworkers, preferably with a good general knowledge of contemporary vehicle bodybuilding construction, being experienced in working with various materials such as composite panels, timber and sheet materials such as plywood. In addition, candidates will be trained in the company’s standard build techniques.
Job purpose:
To build various types of specialist use vehicles from small towable trailers and 3.5 tonne motorised vehicles to heavy goods motorised vehicles and articulated semi-trailers. The company manufactures a wide range of products which includes exhibition units and medical clinics.
Duties:
To build vehicle bodies from chassis to completion, working with hand and power tools. It is essential that candidates can work independently, and as part of a team, in order to achieve the high level of construction and finish that Torton Bodies prides itself on.

Mechanical Technician / Fitter | £ Dependant on experience
Requirements:
Applicant to be a qualified mechanical technician, preferably with automotive industry experience.
Job purpose:
To work on various types of specialist use vehicles from small towable trailers and 3.5 tonne motorised vehicles to heavy goods motorised vehicles and articulated semi-trailers. The company manufactures a wide range of products which includes exhibition units and medical clinics.
Duties will include the installation and servicing of:
Generators, Vehicle diesel heaters, Hydraulic levelling leg systems, Fresh and waste water systems, 3.5-ton trailer running gear.
It is essential that candidates can work individually and as part of a team, to achieve the high level of construction and finish Torton prides itself on. Training in the company’s standard build techniques will be given.

Exhibition Driver | £ Negotiable
Torton produce trailers and motorised exhibition / advice units and need drivers to take these around the UK. Duties will include the set up and sometimes staying with the exhibition and working as part of the team, alongside the clients own staff.
